Eileen Strempel discusses innovation, art, and flexibility in her conversation on equitable student success. She shares her work with transfer students and the importance of highlighting our commonalities to provide educational opportunities for all.
Dr. Eileen Strempel currently serves as the Inaugural Dean of UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music and is also a Professor in UCLA’s School of Education & Information Studies. Strempel is recognized as one of “The Top Ten Deans in U.S. Colleges and Universities,” and has served as PI or co-PI on ~$11M in extramural funding from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Labor, the Department of Education, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, the NY State Education Department and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
A Presidential Scholar, Strempel is a nationally recognized higher education scholar, with a special interest in equitable student success and transfer students. Strempel views access to superb public education as one of the principal social justice issues of our time. Her most recent book with co-author Stephen J. Handel is entitled: Beyond Free College: Making Higher Education Work for 21st Century Students. Strempel received her Bachelor of Music from Eastman School of Music and her doctorate from Indiana University.
