September 20- Transformative Conversations Kick-Off: Celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop in the Academy

Please join us on September 20, as we begin the 2023-2024 season of the Transformative Conversations. We are excited to kick-off this season by celebrating Hip Hop’s connection and influence on Higher Education. In our classrooms and within our teaching, hip hop has been channeled to create spaces of belonging, safe communities for first-generation and historically resilient students, course and content engagement and provided historical and political frameworks for our emergent social activists and public advocates. We have two remarkable guests, Dr. Dawn Elissa Fisher and Dr. Toby Jenkins, who will share their experiences navigating the utilization of in their educational journeys and discuss possible strategies for other academics to consider hip hop.

Guests:

  • Dawn-Elissa Fischer, Professor, San Francisco State University
  • Toby S. Jenkins, PhD, Professor of Higher Education and Associate Provost for Faculty Development, University of South Carolina
